Ageing as an security issue - Martin Koňařík

2015-02-11

Ageing of population is an undisputable fact - in last decades we saw unprecedented rise of share of elderly population in general population. Nowadays we know that ageing is going to influence many parts of our future lives. One of those influenced parts is also both internal and external security. That is a topic that is not usually mentioned in relation with ageing but is indeed very important. This presentation focuses on the ageing and the internal security - challenges that are ahead for both public and private sector. The presentation points out some fundamental questions including readiness of society as a whole, readiness of relevant actors including law enforcement and last and not least potential threats that ageing of population may result in - ageing of offenders, ageing of victims and ageing of police and law enforcement in general. The presentation is supported by evidence based on data of the Czech Republic.

Applied Demography: Sports demography - Petra Dupalová

2015-02-11

This paper briefly introduces selected demographic methods and their application in sports, especially in athletics. Survival analysis is mainly used for calculations. Analysis is applied to data corresponding with the length of the TOP sports career rather than length of life of the individual. This means life tables showing the length of the TOP careers of men and women in various disciplines. The analysis showed that women reach the TOP career at a younger age than men. The results of survival function confirmed that the performance of men and women in various age groups and in individual disciplines are different. The TOP careers of individual groups also differ in expected duration. The assumption about the impact of the annual period in which the athlete was born at the length of the TOP career was not confirmed. The results achieved have confirmed that the methods of demographic analysis are applicable in the field of sports.

Changes in the structure of households of elderly people... - Pavla Tuháčková

2015-02-11

I would like to introduce interconnection between demografic and geographic view on the problem of demographic aging. In last decades number of persons in older age groups has increased significantly. Most changes have occurred in so far rather neglected oldest age group (85 years or older). These people have different demands on living standards and degree of provided health and social care. My research will study ongoing changes in demographic, social and economic attributes within age group 85+. For assessment Population and housing census in 2011 data will be compared with results from previous Census 2001 data. Expected outcomes of the analysis will be regional differences in elderly households. The differences between elderly households living in rural and urban areas or within borderlands (state border areas, Bohemia – Moravia border) are expected. Furthermore, the households will probably differ in their economic and social characteristics and quality of living. Outcomes will be used to prepare suggestions related to regional policies, particularly in providing health and social care.

Geodemographic characteristics of patients with selected cancer diseases in the Czech Republic - Pavel Bartoň, Luděk Šídlo

2015-02-13

The author will try to point out the fundamental differences in sex, age and regions of patients with selected cancers diseases in the Czech Republic. In spite of many references to cancer diseases the cases are not described in relation to demography. The reason is often absence of basic data, let alone regionally structured data. The author uses data obtained from the largest Czech health insurance company (VZP CR).

The Impact of Population Development Changes on Elementary School Capacities... - Marie Kusovská, Luděk Šídlo

2015-02-11

The post communism era in Czechia could be characterized by an increase of a divergence within the society. The divergence concerns various areas of human lives and the differences are even greater if it comes to the regional level. This contribution deals with the differences in population development within municipalities in the Central Bohemian Region after 1991 and their impact on elementary school capacities. Population development is being analysed via Webb graph method. The expected result is the polarity between suburban municipalities around Prague, the capital city and municipalities on the periphery of the Central Bohemian Region. Suburban municipalities’ population has been growing rapidly and therefore the municipalities very often lack elementary school capacities. On the other hand, population in municipalities on the periphery of the region has been decreasing and ageing and elementary school capacities are not entirely utilized.

The population of diabetics in the Czech Republic from demographic point of view - Markéta Kocová

2015-02-11

Diabetes mellitus belongs to the most dangerous diseases. Diabetes doesn ́t hurt for a long time, the consequences that are caused by this disease are very serious. Therefore we should pay attention to this illness. The prevalence of diabetes is increasing worldwide and this trend can be seen also in the Czech Republic. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the population of diabetics more in detail, in order to assess possible gaps in consumption and provision of medical care. A more detailed analysis, however, were still limited by availability of detailed data, especially data about the age structure of patients. These data are owned only by health insurance companies, but they don ́t make them accessible to the public. In this contribution data from General Health Insurance Company will be used for analyzing the population of diabetics in terms of age structure, type of diabetes, etc. But either regional differentiation or other aspects of morbidity won ́t be overlooked.
