Day for Young Historical Demographers

2018-10-15

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the Young Demographers, Department of Demography and Geodemography, the Geographical Institute
(Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science), LONGPOP-INT, the European Society for Historical Demography, and the Association for Young Historical Demographers we would like to invite you to the 10th Demographic Conference of Young Demographers, called traditionally “Actual Demographic Research of Young Demographers (not only) in Europe”. Moreover, because of its 10th anniversary a special day is organized on Wednesday the 6th of February 2019 which focuses on Historical Demography. Prof. Dr. George Alter (University of Michigan) will give a key-note lecture ‘Historical and Contemporary Fertility Transitions in Comparison’ during this event. This program and key-note lecture are made possible because of financial support by the LONGPOP-INT project and the European Society for Historical Demography.

On the 6th of February, participants will have the possibility to attend lectures, present their research and discuss it with colleagues from other countries or fields of study in the morning with the focus on historical demographic research. You will also be assigned an expert commentator. The working language will be English and except for a few posters, all presentations are expected to be in oral form. In the afternoon two workshops are organized that focus on the sources and methods used to build historical demographic databases and conduct analyses. Both workshops are a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises and use R studio.

If you are interested in active participating on conference or workshop, please submit the title of your proposed presentation, a short abstract in English (maximum 250 words) and 3–5 keywords via registration form before the 14th November 2018. You will be informed about the acceptance before the 14th December 2018 (after that you will be informed about the submission of your paper to the conference days or to the workshop).
If you are interested in being a passive participant on the conference and workshop, please use this passive-registration form before the 25th November 2018. You will be informed about your acceptance of your passive participation before the 14th of December 2018.
